JOB SUMMARY:

The Staff Counsellor will provide confidential mental health support to employees, assisting them in overcoming personal, emotional, and psychological challenges. The role involves developing and implementing effective counselling strategies, providing crisis intervention, and promoting overall mental well-being within the workplace.

KEY DELIVERABLES:

Conduct initial assessments to identify employee needs and establish counselling goals.
Develop individualized treatment plans and provide ongoing personal counselling, where appropriate.
Provide critical stress management services following critical incidents or other traumatic events.
Facilitate group workshops on stress management, work-life balance, and mental health awareness.
Collaborate with HR and management to develop wellness programs, policies and initiatives designed to raise awareness about the psychosocial impact of working in a high-risk environment and promotion of personal wellbeing and mental health.
Provide culturally sensitive, active psychosocial support through individual and group counselling for Staff Members and their immediate family members on work-related stress, trauma, interpersonal conflicts, mental health, and personal issues. Promote work-life balance and self-care activities.
Maintain accurate and confidential employee records.
Conduct appropriate analyses of trends and provides recommendations for addressing current or potential challenges.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

You must have a Master’s Degree in Counselling, Counselling Psychology, or a related field, as well as a valid license/certification to practice as a professional counsellor. You must have at least five (5) years of experience in a counselling role, including Clinical case management and counselling. Three (3) years of experience within an industrial setting is an asset.

Critical competencies are trustworthiness and confidentiality, empathetic communication, psychological knowledge and application, crisis intervention and risk assessment, emotional intelligence, patience and tolerance and conflict resolution and mediation.
