The Education Coordinator is responsible for supporting the planning, implementation, and delivery of BREEF’s environmental education programmes. This role focuses on increasing ocean literacy, promoting environmental stewardship, and building capacity among students, teachers, and communities throughout The Bahamas. The Education Officer works closely with schools, partners, and BREEF staff to deliver engaging, hands-on educational experiences aligned with national priorities and global sustainability goals. Must be willing and available to travel. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Support the delivery of BREEF’s education programmes, including Eco-Schools Bahamas, Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) and other youth and community initiatives.
Develop work plans for, teacher training, workshops, assemblies, and outdoor learning activities.
Assist in developing and updating environmental education resources, lesson plans, toolkits, and outreach materials.
Ensure educational content aligns with Bahamian curricula, national environmental priorities, and international frameworks.
Develop systems and platforms to collect and organize data related to programme activities, participation, and impact.
Represent BREEF at school and community events, meetings, and public outreach activities.
Support partnerships with schools, NGOs, government agencies, and private sector partners.
Assist with public awareness campaigns related to marine conservation, climate change, and sustainability.
Maintain accurate programme records and databases.
Support scheduling, logistics, and coordination of education activities.
Assist with intern supervision and volunteer coordination, as required.
Coordinate opportunities for sharing experiences and networking between local and international schools.
Support BREEF’s other school-based and public education activities
Mentor and support outreach/education staff

General

Support BREEF’s strategic and work planning needs.
Provide support for board engagement, BREEF’s fundraising activities and special events.
Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of client, staff and agency information.
Other duties as assigned by management.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in science education/environmental studies, or related discipline
3+ yrs. of teaching experience in a K-12 school, or related educational environment in The Bahamas
Excellent planning and organizational skills; good analytical and creative problem-solving skills
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
Confidence in networking with local and international partners at all levels
Computer literate - proficient in the use of MS Office, email applications, web-based & social media
Grant-writing/fund-raising experience is an asset
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Able to swim or willing to learn
Willing and available to travel and work flexible hours, when necessary
