As a Senior Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for overseeing the operations of water and wastewater treatment plants. In this role, you'll work with advanced technology and a team of operators and engineering specialists, tackling complex challenges that make a significant impact on public health and the environment. The role requires strong organizational and people skills and the ability to manage a team.

Duties and Responsibilities

Perform assigned treatment plant rounds; inspect, monitor, troubleshoot, performance test, and document plant processes by reading plant equipment indicator instruments.
Operate and adjust treatment plant pumps, motors, feeders, and other equipment to maintain appropriate plant operations.
Maintain, compile, and update plant operation logs and reports; perform and record mathematical calculations related to plant operational activities.
Mix and add treatment chemicals; ensure adequate chemical application according to regulations and guidelines.
Install, maintain, repair, modify, troubleshoot, and service plant operations equipment.
Collect and document liquid and solid samples and perform a variety of routine water quality laboratory tests as required, work closely with laboratory on testing processes, and monitor results.
General facility maintenance such as cleaning, painting and repair.
Schedule maintenance and repair of treatment plants.
Participate in establishing schedules and methods for providing maintenance and repair services; identify resource needs; review needs with appropriate supervisory and/or management staff; allocate resources accordingly.
Coordinate construction, maintenance, material selection, and repair activities with staff.
Participate in development of goals and procedures for water or wastewater treatment activities; gather and analyze data, develop a variety of reports.
As assigned, participate in a variety of projects such as construction of piping, electrical, and structural systems related to work area.
Conduct tours for the public, schools, and government staff as necessary.
Supervise, assign tasks and special projects to lower-level plant operators.
Train staff in treatment methods and techniques, and schedule to ensure proper plant coverage.
Audit and enter timesheet information into the computer system for assigned employees.

Position Qualifications

Understanding the principles and practices of water or wastewater treatment plant operations.
Experience with the operating principles of plant equipment such as valves, pumps, and motors.
Operate and monitor water or wastewater treatment plant equipment.
Read, interpret, and calibrate gauges and other recording devices related to water or wastewater treatment plant operations.
Take liquid and solid samples and perform routine laboratory tests.
Diagnose operating problems and take effective courses of action.
Make independent technical decisions to maintain proper treatment processes.
Maintain pertinent records and compile data into comprehensive reports.
Perform routine to difficult maintenance, repairs, and installations of plant equipment.
Read, interpret, and understand technical manuals, drawings, blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
Perform heavy manual labor.
Use and operate self-contained breathing apparatus equipment.
Participate in safety training courses including CPR and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) training.
Adapt to changing technologies and learn functionality of new equipment and systems.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients/customers and colleagues.
Understanding of PLC Schematics and loop drawings would be considered an asset.
Lead and manage a team.

Education, Experience & Requirements

Grade II or III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate issued by a recognized Control Board.
Background in chemical/process or electrical engineering would be considered an asset.
Experience with MBBR and CAS wastewater plants.
Experience with SWRO would be an asset.
A minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a Senior Operator or similar position.
Possession of a valid driver’s license to operate a manual vehicle and a valid Passport. Travel to and from local wastewater plants is a requirement, along with travel throughout the Caribbean.
Experience with dealing with Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems (Preferred)
