Antilles Employees’ Credit Union (Co-operative) Society Limited (AECU) is seeking a talented, innovative, and self-driven professional to join our team.

JOB SUMMARY

The Accountant will play a critical role in safeguarding the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of the Credit Union’s financial records. This position is responsible for the preparation of timely financial reporting, maintenance of proper accounting controls, and supporting project management initiatives that contribute to the Credit Union’s strategic objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual management accounts in accordance with established accounting standards
Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements ensuring adherence to established accounting standards and regulatory requirements
Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and appropriately classified
Perform account reconciliations, including bank accounts and all key balance sheet accounts
Manage the month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely reporting
Maintain the fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules
Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
Monitor compliance with internal controls, accounting policies and regulatory requirements
Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation required for the annual external audit
Collaborate with external auditors during the audit process to provide any documentation required
Complete tax filings and ensure compliance with statutory submission and reporting requirements
Maintain accurate and organized financial records and documentation
Manage project timelines, budgets deliverables, and financial oversight for resources and on-going initiatives.
Assist with cash flow forecasting and liquidity management to support operational and regulatory requirements.
Monitor loan portfolio reconciliations and support financial aspects of delinquency management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Eligible candidates must possess:

A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field and/or
Professional certification such as ACCA or equivalent
At least five (5) years’ proven experience as an Accountant or in a similar accounting role
Experience using the Emortelle Accounting System or similar accounting software is an asset.

An in-depth knowledge of the laws and regulations which govern credit unions
An in-depth knowledge of the government’s financial regulations and instructions
Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
In-depth understanding of accounting principles and reporting standards
Must be able to administer AML/CFT legislation/guidelines
Must be willing to contribute to and participate in new approaches to expand AECU’s agenda
