Role Description The Assistant Accountant is a full-time, on-site role based in Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago. This role supports the finance and accounting function; and the Accountant. The Assistant Accountant helps prepare financial reports and schedules, supports month-end and year-end closing activities, and ensures compliance with internal controls, policies, and regulatory requirements. The role also involves responding to internal and external queries, collaborating with team members on process improvements, and providing general administrative support to the accounting department.

Qualifications

Strong knowledge of basic accounting principles, including double-entry bookkeeping, ledger maintenance, and bank reconciliation.
Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office (especially Excel), and comfort working with digital financial systems.
Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry, documentation review, and record keeping.
Effective organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Clear written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with colleagues and respond to member and stakeholder queries.
Ability to work ethically with confidential financial information and adhere to policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
ACCA Level II
Experience in financial services or a credit union/cooperative environment is an advantage.
